About this Project

OCI Associates, Inc. was responsible for the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering design for the interior renovations of Buildings 4 and 36 at Florida Atlantic University’s Boca Raton Campus.
Improvements to the existing MEP system of Building 4 was needed to support the redesigned floor plan that included the new Transportation Lab, AutoCAD Lab, and Senior Design Lab. The areas are designed to maximize flexibility of spaces using furniture that is easy to reconfigure and adaptive infrastructure to support all specialty equipment. Renovations for building 36 involve an upgrade to the existing MEP system for the remodeling of the main lobby, new engineering chemical laboratory, student study suites, Soils Research Laboratory, Distance Learning Laboratory, Engineering Biology Laboratory, Graduate Research Laboratory, Covered Outdoor Research Courtyard and other supporting spaces.
HVAC engineering design for both buildings included fume hoods and associated ductwork and fans in the lab areas; new diffusers and grills; new drop ceilings throughout; a negative room pressure within the lab spaces; ventilation design, and HAVC Test and Balance. Our team’s electrical design included emergency power, dual exhaust fans on emergency power, lighting design, telecommunications, secure cabling and card access readers. The plumbing design includes emergency showers and sinks, new floor drains and sewer; compressed air, vacuum system, fire sprinklers, new drain access and clean-outs.
