Indian River County Fire District

Fire Station Prototype

About this Project

OCI Associates, Inc. provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering design for the development of a new fire station prototype for the Indian River County Fire District. Based on this prototype design the team completed design and construction for nine (9), two-bay fire stations equipped with sleeping quarters, kitchen, bathrooms, lockers and a workout room. The estimated total construction costs are $2 million dollars per fire station.

Fire Station #13 sits on a 1.5-acre site and includes living quarters for the firemen/paramedics, kitchen with dining area, restrooms with showers, fitness and training rooms. There is a separate space for a small branch office for law enforcement,  a biohazard wash-down area, heliport, and a truck refueling station. Other features of the new prototype are a secure drug and medicine storage area, full generator-powered electrical system, and workshop for repairs and lawn equipment. The building is designed to sustain hurricane category 4 winds up to 155-mph.

The other fire stations that are constructed using this prototype are:
Vero Beach Stations #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #12, #13
Sebastion Stations #8, #9
Waboasso Station #11
