OCI’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design efforts have always incorporated innovative techniques to maximize energy efficiency, and we are committed to staying informed of current standards and new methods to incorporate green building design principles into all our projects. We require all our professionals to pursue LEED® AP) Certification and encourage the rest of our technical staff to participate in the certification program.
Other Green Initiatives
The OCI team supports other green building initiatives such as Net Zero and the Green Globes System. The Green Globes system is a revolutionary building environmental design and management tool. It delivers an online assessment protocol, rating system and guidance for green building design, operation, and management. It is interactive, flexible, and affordable. The program provides market recognition of a building’s environmental attributes through third-party verification. Green Globes facilitates multi-disciplinary collaboration from the earliest stages of a project onward and introduces the elements of sustainability in a logical sequence from goal setting to construction documents and building operations.
Certified Energy Manager
We encompass energy efficiency design, green initiatives, solar design, wind turbine power, and smart building design to help facilities become certified LEED® with the USGBC or Green Globes Certified. As part of our role in green building, we utilize our in-house Certified Energy Manager, Jason Smith, PE, LEED AP BD+C, CEM who has demonstrated high levels of experience, competence, proficiency, and ethical fitness in the energy management profession.
Certified Energy Managers perform energy audits to provide supply and demand-side energy management to get the best cost per kW; consumption management to lower overall energy use; economic analysis to determine system upgrade paybacks, and provides greening recommendations to help companies minimize their impact on the environment. Energy Managers also provide a focused energy perspective to new construction and renovation designs for HVAC, electrical, and plumbing design documents incorporating energy efficient concepts from the beginning of the project.
