Classroom Building & New Consolidated Data Center

Valencia College West Campus, Orlando, FL

About this Project

OCI Associates, Inc. provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and ITS/AV engineering services for the $13 million dollar Training & Classroom Building on Valencia College’s West Campus.  This 60,000 square foot design/build project provides the space for the College to consolidate the campus data center and 2,353 square feet for Technology Support. Renovations for the updated network infrastructure required 3,595 square feet of floor space to be raised. Our team also provided the design for the fire suppression system, server room, additional space for 5,520 square feet for Web/Portal, Enterprise Systems, Institutional Research, and Learning Technology areas.

The new data center is equipped with state-of-the-art technology equipment, fiber optics, and backup emergency power. Computer server rooms, phone rooms, and other areas having sensitive communication equipment which produce heat have separate split-system air conditioning units to maintain that equipment if the failure of the building chiller should occur. These units were connected to the BAS and installed with a high-temperature alarm. The new data center supports the West Campus and the surrounding Valencia College campuses in Osceola, Lake Nona, Downtown locations. Specific systems involved are Phone, Network, Wireless, Classroom and Conference Center Audio Visual, digital signage, access control, video surveillance, paging, white noise and mass notification. OCI designed air-cooled chillers with vertical discharge cooling fans that have variable frequency drives.
