OCI Associates, Inc. provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and IT/AV Systems design for a Winter Park’s new Public Safety Complex that the Police and Fire Departments share. The exterior architectural design incorporates the aesthetics of the downtown area. The first floor serves as home to the Operations Division, records storage, property storage, an evidence processing and locker areas, witness and suspect interview areas, and a large staff break/lunch room. A 1,400 square foot physical agility room equipped with a free-weight system workout machines, and separate women’s and men’s locker rooms complete with shower facilities. The first floor also contains separate areas for the Department’s armory and a SWAT locker room. The prisoner holding cell and booking area include separate, secure sections for male, female and juvenile offenders, an on-site DUI testing facility, and a secure sally port entrance. The second floor of the building provides offices for the rest of the Department’s divisions, houses the Communications/Dispatch Section, and a training room. The Public Safety Building was constructed to be a secure building for the employees with restricted public access. Other features include a four-bay vehicle storage garage, a vehicle processing bay for the Investigation’s Unit, on-site fuel pumps, a dedicated K-9 holding area and several extra secure storage areas.
